I wanted to follow up on progress made designing my little word-association ‘game’. I actually debuted it as Joinery at the Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival back in August!
I explored further aesthetic options: typeface, coloured paper stock, size, and including images in different amounts on the cards:
Ultimately I decided I liked the pastel colourways. I also found a number of public domain illustrations of different icons from a 1570 book called A methode, or comfortable beginning for all vnlearned to read English by John Hart. The symbols correspond with the first sound in their name, to my knowledge. There’s an eel for the ‘ee’ sound!
I also sourced some nice little metal tins, which determined the size and corner radius of the cards. Each little box I packaged with two sets of cards in different colours, an ‘instruction booklet’ (more like prompts for how to use them), and packaged with a little ribbon with the name on it. I like how it turned out! I’m interested in further editions…
